Introduction:
About 2% of the Dutch agricultural land is used for the cultivation of onions. Dutch farmers grow about 12000 acres of seed onions yearly; producing between 500.000 and 600.000 tons of onions, depending on the amount of seeds and growing conditions. 90% of the total crop is exported all over the world. 40% of the total Dutch onion cultivation is situated at the biggest polders of Flevoland. Other important cultivation area’s in Holland are the provinces Friesland, Noord-Holland and Zeeland.
